Rebecca A. Quinn

Bio

Rebecca Quinn was a native of Kansas City, Missouri. She was the daughter of James and Ruth Quinn and had a brother, James S. Quinn.

Becky attended Central Missouri State College in Warrensburg, Missouri where received her B.S.E. and M.S. degrees in Physical Education.

She was appointed Assistant Professor in Physical Education at San Diego State College in September 1971. Later (1976) she received her Ph.D. from the University of Iowa. Rebecca served on the faculty at San Diego State for 30 years. Her teaching focus was in teacher education and physical activity classes.
Becky taught skills at various levels in volleyball, basketball, softball, tennis, and soccer. She also taught courses dealing with the administration of physical education and supervision of student teachers.

Becky was active in service to the department as a member of many committees, including those dealing with scholarships and teacher preparation. She made major contributions as a member of the department committee in preparation for the 1997 SDSU Founder’s Day Celebration. Another of Becky’s significant roles was as Editor of the department newsletter for student majors, first known as PE Majors Newsletter and later as the ENS Major’s Newsletter. She was the editor for many years (1993 to 2000).

In 2001 Becky retired as Emeritus Assistant Professor of Exercise & Nutritional Sciences. She spent her retirement years in San Diego and passed away in July 2013.

We include excerpts from her Obituary published in the Kansas City Star: “Rebecca A. Quinn, Ph.D. Professor Emeritus, age 72, passed away in San Diego, CA, on July 28, 2013, with loving friends by her side. She fought a tough and courageous battle with lung cancer. She is survived by her brother James S. Quinn, his wife Beverly and their children Scott, Meredith, and Stacey. Becky loved to play, coach, and watch sports and was a fan of the San Diego teams. Becky will be missed by countless friends, associates, and family.”
