Bio

Norita Loxley Comin was born in Minnesota. She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota.

She married Clark Moreland Comin, a native of Iowa. He was a farmer who became an insurance agent and office manager. They lived first in Wyoming where their son Clark Jr. and daughter Margaret were born. Sometime between 1930 and 1940, the family moved to Denver, Colorado where Clark was office manager of an insurance company.

Husband Clark died unexpectedly in 1943 at the age of 49. At that time Norita was 43 years old and without a career. Her son was 22, and her daughter was 16. It is unclear when Norita received her B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota, but it was likely to back before her marriage to Clark. As a widow, she made the decision to begin her career as a nutrition teacher.

By the time she had reached the age of 50 in 1949, Norita was hired by San Diego State College as Acting Assistant Professor. She also received her M.A. degree from San Diego State. She taught in the area of nutrition in the Home Economics Department. In 1959 she wrote a book on the eating habits of California teenagers.

Norita was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor. She was named Associate Professor Emeritus of Home Economics upon her retirement in 1963. She lived another 29 years in retirement. She died April 1984 in Smith County, Texas at the age of 84.
