Kathleen Fox

Bio

Kathleen Fox was a native of Kansas. Her parents were Deidrick and Eva (Langley) Fox, who lived in Elmdale City, Chase County, Kansas (1930 Census). By 1940 (Census) at age 14, Kathleen lived with her aunt, Catherine Langley.

Kathleen majored in physical education at Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas and served as Historian for Xi Phi, a leadership fraternity. She was also a member of Kansas State’s Winnetaska Organization and President of the Physical Education Club. Kathleen went on to graduate school and received her M.A. degree from the University of Iowa.

She joined the faculty at San Diego State in 1962 as Assistant Professor of Physical Education. During her 24 years on the faculty, Kathleen also completed her Ph.D. at the University of Southern California.

Dr. Fox was promoted twice during her tenure and reached the rank of Professor before retirement. She taught primarily in the course areas of motor control and physical activity. She was devoted to students and was a campus leader in the Women’s Athletic and Recreation Association (WARA) and the State Physical Education Club (SPEC).

Kathleen retired in 1986 and lived in the San Diego area. She remained connected to her former colleagues and participated in events such as Founder’s Day in 1997, celebrating the 100th anniversary of SDSU. She passed away (August 26, 2014) and will be remembered for her lifetime of dedication and service to the field of physical education.
