Marion Rauft Lyon was born in Brooklyn, NY, one of four children of John B. Lyon and Mary Rauft. Her father was a broker. She received her B.A. degree at the University of Iowa and M.S. at the University of Southern California.
Marion married Walter E. Schwob, a native of Iowa. They had one daughter, Rosemary, born in Iowa in 1925. Walter was an electrical engineer. They moved to San Diego, California in 1934.
She began teaching at San Diego State Teachers College as an instructor in 1934. She was later promoted to Associate Professor of Physical Education and served as Acting Director of Physical Education (Women’s Department). Her teaching included courses in preparation for teaching careers in physical education for elementary and secondary schools. She also taught courses in gymnastics and folk dancing. She was sponsor/advisor to the Women’s Physical Education Club.
Marion Lyon Schwob retired in 1960. She and husband Walter enjoyed their retirement in San Diego, where Walter passed away in 1972. Marion lived until 1986. She died at age 93 in Los Angeles
