Carole Robasciotti

Bio

Carole Ann Robasciotti received her Bachelor of Science degree (Summa Cum Laude) in Business Education from the University of West Florida in 1978. While in college, she gained experience working as a counselor and speech tutor with Upward Bound Program at the University of West Florida.  She went on to graduate school at Kansas State University where she was a graduate teaching assistant in the office of the Dean of Home Economics and later was a graduate research assistant in the Department of Family Economics.  She received her Master of Science degree in Family Economics from Kansas State University in 1979. 

Carole worked as an Instructor at the Woodham Community Schools in Pensacola, Florida early in 1980, before being appointed as a Faculty Instructor in the School of Family Studies and Consumer Sciences (FSCS) at San Diego State University (SDSU) in August 1980. She developed and taught undergraduate courses dealing with family management, home energy, and financial issues, and contemporary issues. She also taught a course on professional issues for students in food and nutritional sciences. Carole served FSCS as an academic advisor and student counselor in the area of professional development. She worked as a liaison for FSCS with area community colleges and businesses.

In August 1983 Carole was appointed Assistant Dean for Student Affairs in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts (PSFA) at SDSU. She served in that capacity with distinction for 21 years. Carole’s had the important role of creating and maintaining relationships between PSFA and academic and student services. She dealt directly with students on academic matters dealing with academic change requests, reinstatement, grievance and plagiarism. She coordinated special projects and acted as liaison to service areas of financial aid, housing, health services, counseling services and placement, and associated students. She developed and planned orientation programs for students and parents and coordinated the PSFA Commencement ceremony, an event acknowledging over 1,300 graduates yearly.

Carole remained her presence in the classroom for over 20 years by teaching Nutrition 221 “Professional Issues: Foods and Nutrition” and through participation in the University Seminar, part of the University-wide Freshman Success Program. She was a called upon guest speaker at residence halls, fraternity and sorority members and parents, outreach programs, and local schools. She received many awards for her teaching and outstanding service to the University and community. Among her awards were Outstanding Faculty and Staff by SDSU Mortar Board, Outstanding Faculty Advisor and Homecoming Dedicatee by SDSU Associated Students, “Quest for the Best” as Vice Presidential Student Service, and Panhellenic Faculty Woman of the Year.

Under Carole’s guidance, the PSFA college council was one of the most highly recognized councils across campus and was awarded numerous plaques of recognition.  Carole and her group established a “National City Middle School Scholarship Fund” that awarded scholarships to young people from NCMS who were excellent students who came to SDSU.

In 2004 Carole retired from SDSU as Emeritus Assistant Dean for Student Affairs (PSFA) and as Emeritus Lecturer in Exercise and Nutritional Sciences. Randi McKenzie, a former colleague, and current (2014) Assistant Dean of Students in PSFA made this quote about Carole: “Former Assistant Dean Carole Robasciotti was a role model for me, and her passion and dedication to students was unparalleled.”

In recognition of her significant contributions, an endowed scholarship has been established in her name at SDSU: The “Carole Robasciotti Endowed Scholarship.”

Carole and husband Joesph Glidden live in La Mesa, CA, a suburb of San Diego.
