Dr. Surbhi Bhutani receives the University Grants Program Grant
We congratulate Dr. Surabhi Bhutani for being awarded a University Grants Program (UGP) grant entitled “Diurnal modulation in olfactory perception, meal timing, and food intake.”
Dr. Bhutani and the team will examine whether chronotype (morning type vs evening type) affects odor perception through the waking hours in healthy adults. They will also test if the fluctuation in odor perception correlates with food cravings, the energy density of food, and calorie intake. Except for one study visit, they will use ecological momentary assessment (EMA) using a phone application to collect data remotely at home. With a repeated sampling of subjects’ behaviors and experiences in real-time in their natural environments, they will be able to study the behavior in a real-world context.
