MS - Kinesiology
Overview
The Master of Science (M.S.) in Kinesiology program at San Diego State University prepares students to become leaders in movement science, physical activity promotion, and applied health research. This research-focused program integrates interdisciplinary coursework with hands-on research and professional training, equipping graduates with the skills needed to excel in academic, clinical, community, and industry settings.
Students select from two concentrations, Biomechanics & Motor Control or Physical Activity, to deepen their expertise while developing skills that span the breadth of kinesiology. Students engage in foundational coursework spanning movement science, research methods, data analysis, behavioral science and theory, and scientific communication. The curriculum emphasizes critical thinking, evidence-based practice, and the application of analytical techniques to address complex challenges related to human movement, physical activity, and health in diverse contexts.
Graduates will matriculate with technical and analytical expertise, as well as a commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice, positioning them to contribute meaningfully as researchers, practitioners, and leaders in kinesiology.
