Scott Tinley Recognized for Triathlon Accomplishments

February 10, 2021

Scott Tinley
Scott Tinley

ENS Lecturer Scott Tinley was recently recognized for his accomplishments as part of the “Big Four” in triathlon lore in January. He elevated the sport of triathlon to its prestige. He currently is a lecturer for our ENS 318 Sports, Games and Culture course and our ENS 438 Psychosocial Aspects of Disease and Injury Rehabilitation Course.

Scott joined Mark Allen, Scott Molina, and Dave Scott. The four gentlemen gave a group keynote speech in the form of a panel during USA Triathlon’s Endurance Exchange Expo. The four reunited after a decade and famously raced each other throughout the 1980s and 90s and launched the sport into what it is today. Scott was inducted into the USA Triathlon Hall of Fame in 2012. Throughout the decades, many of their “battles “were captured by ABC Wide World of Sports. All four dominated the sport for almost 15 years sharing 15 Ironman World Championship titles between them.
