Dr. Changqi Liu and Daniel Pentico Growing Hydroponic Strawberries

August 24, 2020

Daniel Pentico, a communications major set up a hydroponic system at home to improve the quality of hydroponically grown strawberriesCommunications Senior Daniel Pentico appeared on SDSU NewsCenter about his work on his Summer Undergraduate Program Project Remote Research Opportunity. Daniel has been growing hydroponic strawberries at home since face to face lab work is unattainable due to COVID-19 restrictions. With the mentorship Foods and Nutrition Associate Professor Dr. Changqi Liu, Daniel constructed a growing chamber fitted with LED lighting, customized hydroponic systems (using water and minerals instead of soil), and installed sensors to monitor temperature and humidity. Dr. Liu and Daniel aim at improving the quality of the strawberries. To read more on Daniel and Dr. Liu’s research, check the article out.
