Rancho Bernardo High’s head athletic trainer, SDSU alum Robbie Bowers, led his athletic team during a medical distress at a home basketball game. Bowers found a Westview staff member’s grandfather in cardiac arrest and immediately he began chest compressions. His intern, current SDSU Athletic Training student, Nicole Shimotake brought the defibrillator, and a Rancho Bernardo High athletic trainer prepared his chest.
Their swift lifesaving actions saved the man’s life. Bowers credits their quick response to their training and frequent protocol reviews where everyone on the team knows exactly what to do in the event of an emergency.
