Biography
Leonardo Nogueira, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in the School of Exercise and Nutritional
Sciences. He directs the Laboratory of Muscle Contractile Function and Repair located at the Alvarado
Facility from San Diego State University Research Foundation. Dr. Nogueira conducts research on the
mechanisms of fatigue, contractile function, and exercise-induced muscle regeneration. He utilizes
different animal models to explore how chronic inflammatory diseases, environmental pollutants
(e.g., tobacco smoke), and acute and chronic hypoxia interfere with muscle physiology and
regeneration.
