Betty Jane went to the University of Wisconsin where she received her B.S. degree in Physical Education. She went to graduate school at the University of Michigan and attained her M.S. degree.

In 1961 Betty was appointed to a faculty position at San Diego State where she taught for 20 years in the Department of Physical Education. When she retired in 1980, she was given the status of Emeritus Assistant Professor in Physical Education.
