BIO:
Geographically, I migrated to California from Texas, Michigan, Colorado, and Virginia. While I have enjoyed the culture and climate of each of these states, I feel fortunate to have landed my career path at San Diego State University (SDSU). I came to SDSU in 1994 as a faculty member in the Athletic Training Program. During my tenure, I served as the ENS undergraduate advisor (1997-1999), the ENS graduate advisor (2012-2018) and the Athletic Training Program Director (1999-2005; 2009-2012; 2018-present). My career highlights include three athletic training accreditation self-study reports, two published textbooks and a published interactive computer series. My personal highlights include two beautiful children, Annamarie (DOB: 1998) and Eric, Jr. (DOB: 2000). I stay very busy being an active parent and enjoy traveling all over the country visiting family and friends. In my spare time, I keep a healthy body and mind through hiking, mountain biking, reading, and prayer meditation.
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
I strive to bring educational content to the classroom in a practical and easy-to-understand manner to help students build strong foundational knowledge based upon best practices for optimizing patient outcomes. I have a genuine approach in the classroom that fosters mutual respect, motivation, and camaraderie.
RESEARCH INTEREST:
While my research endeavors have been limited in recent years due to my heavy teaching and administrative loads, I have interest in educational technologies and how to maximize learning through sound curriculum design and instructional practice.
