Each of the two research lines have numerous opportunities for student involvement. Athletic training clinical practice and research go hand-in-hand, therefore we highly recommend the opportunity to complete research that can be translated to the athletic training profession.
ATP Research, Publications, and Presentations
The faculty within the MSAT program have research interests in two main areas of AT pedagogies and concussion research.
- We aim to provide the most effective teaching strategies for AT students, and therefore have interests in how to best complete that task. Refer to the Curriculum Vitae for Dr. Denise Lebsack, Dr. Margo Greicar, and Kim Detwiler MS, ATC.to reference publications related to AT pedagogies.
- Our second research focus is in the area of concussion, specifically the faculty aim to understand what factors lead to concussion disclosure and design an educational intervention with emphasis on the factors that influence disclosure. If we can influence concussion reporting by getting individuals to report their injury, we may be able to better understand the injury and mitigate the potential for short- and long-term health consequences.
- In addition to examining concussion disclosure and educational interventions, the MSAT faculty have research interests in the psychosocial side of concussions including mental health considerations and returning to academics. The MSAT faculty are also examining nutritional practices and medical disqualification following concussion. We aim to examine this complicated injury in all athlete ages and in the military setting as well. Refer to the Curriculum Vitae for Dr. Michelle Rawlins.
