BIOGRAPHY:
I have over 30 years of combined educational, clinical, and leadership experience in athletic training. Currently, I serve as MSAT Program Director at San Diego State University. I have been actively involved nationally as a member of the CAATE Review Committee and a Site Visitor. Throughout my career, I have provided leadership for several Athletic Training Programs serving primarily as a program director and faculty member. I have also held the higher education leadership positions of Director of Graduate Studies for the College of Education at Temple University and Chairperson of Athletic Training at Heidelberg University. My focus in higher education has involved creating and improving athletic training programs while advocating high educational standards, leadership, dynamic learning strategies, and professional development. I earned her doctoral degree in Educational Administration and Leadership Studies, fortifying my commitment to improving the educational process and professional development of athletic training students and preparing athletic trainers as administrators and leaders. I am an avid runner, swimmer, scuba diver, meditator, and proud dog mom of Chill and Cheer! Basically, I like to be active!
TEACHING PHILOSOPHY:
I believe an effective educator is one who is able to adapt to the changing learning environment at a moment’s notice – and did we ever experience that this past year! Both the student and the instructor need to trust they are in a safe, positive learning environment with mutual respect where everyone is free to openly express their opinions and values. I believe the learning environment should be dynamic and include active learning exercises. I challenge my students through spirited discussions and assignments emphasizing critical thinking skills by providing interactive learning opportunities involving the visual, auditory, and tactile senses. I combine this with a passionate, enthusiastic, and caring approach to foster the holistic development of a student who is able to make valuable contributions to the athletic training profession and society.
RESEARCH INTEREST:
My current research interests are three-fold: clinical education pedagogy, athletic training leadership, and the Q angle measurement of intercollegiate baseball players as it relates to throwing accuracy, precision, and velocity.
