Jessica Swartz, PT, DPT was awarded a Promotion of Doctoral Studies scholarship from the Foundation for Physical Therapy Research. Swartz is the recipient of the Pelvic Health Award. Her project “Physical Therapy for Postpartum Healing and Health Equity” is supported through the Academy of Pelvic Health Fund made possible through the support of the American Physical Therapy Association’s Academy of Pelvic Health. Dr. Swartz is a graduate of the SDSU DPT Program, is an Associated Faculty in the DPT Program, and is currently pursuing her PhD in Public Health (Health Behavior), mentored by SDSU DPT core faculty member, Dr. Lori Tuttle. Congratulations Dr. Swartz!
SDSU students sweep top honors in California Outreach Challenge
DPT students Cynthia Solomon, John Tagulao, and Brooke Gower took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for highest individual volunteer hours for the California Outreach Challenge, a state-wide competition that challenges SPT/SPTAs to accrue volunteer hours in their local communities.

DPT students selected for President’s Award at SDSU Student Research Symposium
DPT students Cynthia Solomon, Janae Anthony, Freddy Gonzalez, Marco Patawaran, Julia Sinsay, Samantha Ungson, and Public Health PhD student Chelsea Chapman presented their research at the 2022 Student Research Symposium and CSU Student Research Competition on “A Novel Sentiment Analysis Approach for Investigating Empathic Communication in Adults with Chronic Musculoskeletal Pain in an Outpatient Physical Therapy Setting”, mentored by DPT faculty Dr. Katrina Maluf. They were selected for the SDSU President’s Award for their work. Congratulations to all!
Congratulations to Gail Bachman, current faculty and DPT graduate, for earning the “Emerging Leader” award from the APTA



One of our graduates (2015) and current associated faculty member, Gail Bachman, PT, DPT, earned the “Emerging Leader” award from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Awardees have made exceptional overall accomplishments and contributions to the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the component, and the physical therapy profession to advance APTA’s vision.
The award ceremony was held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC on Sept 12th and started with the Mary McMillan Lecture by Colleen Kigin and then a recognition of 2020 and 2021 award recipients.
Dr. Bachman states, “I was honestly surprised but very grateful to receive this award. It was a true honor to be recognized by my colleagues and mentors.”

SDSU DPT Graduates Start Neurologic Rehab NonProfit

Jessie Agrimis and Meagan George (class of 2017) have teamed up to launch NeuroLab 360 – a Non-Profit Neurologic Rehabilitation Clinic in North County San Diego. They aim to provide high quality Neurologic Physical Therapy and Wellness services on a sliding scale so that each individual can reach their maximum potential without being bound by insurance limitations. NeuroLab 360 aims to be a resource for the community and a leader in providing additional services such as group exercise classes, support groups, and educational seminars. Jessie and Meagan are passionate about serving those with neurologic impairments and have received extensive additional training since earning their doctoral degrees from SDSU in order to improve patient outcomes and experience.
