Many of our faculty and second- and third-year students attended the Combined Sections Meeting of the American Physical Therapy Association on Feb 21-24, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The Doctor of Physical Therapy Student Association applied for the competitive Student Success Fee Award and was granted the funds to support student travel and lodging costs associated with this trip.
Below is a list of educational and research presentations by SDSU faculty (in bold) and students (in italics):
Three students from our first cohort (Class of 2015), Julianne Stewart, Gail Bachman, and Clarissa Cooper, published work from their doctoral project entitled “Circadian dysfunction and fluctuations in gait initiation impairment in Parkinson’s disease” in the journal Experimental Brain Research.
Congratulations!
Dr. Tuttle received a research grant from the National Institutes of Health for her project “An Innovative Rehabilitation Approach for Women with Anal Incontinence.”
This project, in collaboration with investigators at UCSD, will investigate the use of different muscle contractions and exercises on the sphincter muscles and muscles of the pelvic floor with the goal of improving patient symptoms and patient care.
The $2 Million award will support this research over the next 5 years.
Congratulations to our recent graduates from the DPT Class of 2017: Katie Mitchell, Madeline Porter, Lauren Anderson, Carter Phillips, Grayson Arceo, and Brian Montz on publishing the findings of their doctoral project entitled “Differences in lumbar spine and lower extremity kinematics in people with and without low back pain during a step-up task: a cross-sectional study” in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders.
The group presented the findings of this study at the APTA Combined Sections Meeting in San Antonio, Texas in February. This group of students was mentored by DPT faculty member Sara Gombatto, PT, PhD.
