Sarah Kirtland

Sarah Kirtland (Rehabilitation Sciences) was awarded second place in the Behavioral and Social Sciences category at last weekend’s CSU Student Research Competition held at CSU Polytechnic in Pomona.

Sarah received $250 for her presentation, Impaired Balance Control in Autism Spectrum Disorders is Correlated with Neuropsychological Measures of Symptom Severity. Dann Goble served as Sarah’s advisor on the study.

Sarah will be attending the University of Alabama, Birmingham, in their Rehabilitation Science program next fall.

Seth Seay

Kayli Dalton

Faculty selected Seth Seay as the ENS Outstanding Undergraduate Graduating Student and Kayli Dalton as the Outstanding Graduate Graduating Student.

Seth is a prephysical therapy student and he selected Denise Lebsack as his most influential faculty member. Kayli is in the dual exercise physiology and nutritional sciences programs and selected Susan Levy as her most influential faculty member.

Both will join Seth and Kayli on stage during commencement. In addition, Seth was selected as the CHHS Outstanding Graduating Student based on his 4.0 GPA.

Doctor of Physical Therapy students don their white coats.

SDSU’s DPT class received their professional coats at the program’s first White Coat Ceremony held on October 22.  Dr. Mitch Rauh, Program Director, robed the students while Provost Nancy Marlin pinned on students’ name badges.  Also attending were Dean Marilyn Newhoff and Director Fred Kolkhorst.

The White Coat Ceremony marks students’ transition from preclinical to clinical studies, and students will wear their coats when they begin meeting patients during their various internships over the next three years.

New B.S. in Athletic Training!

The B.S. in Athletic Training major was approved to begin this fall.

Current athletic training students can graduate with the new degree; however, to do so, you must submit a completed “Declaration of Major or Minor” form to the Office of the Registrar. This form is available from the registrar’s office or the Office of Advising and Evaluation.

A world of opportunity exists for ENS students going abroad!

All ENS undergraduate students who are new to SDSU beginning fall 2012 (i.e., freshmen, new transfer students) are now required to have an international experience that is approved by the College.   Students participate in residence for two or more weeks.

This is a new graduation requirement and will not be waived!

Culinary Food Science Club (CFSC) knows food!

The mission of CFSC is to celebrate everything to do with food! CFSC meets monthly to discuss topics such as food selection and preparation, as well as swap recipes, play food related games, and arrange for guest speakers to address a variety of topics. CFSC also arranges foodie field trips, and is involved in community service activities and charities.

New DPT Program!

We welcome the first class of 36 students, Class of 2015, to our new Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program!

The entry-level program for physical therapists is a three-year, year-round program.  Most of the first two years will be spent in lecture and laboratory classes while the last year will be in clinical internship rotations.

Graduates shouldn’t have to worry about finding employment as job prospects for physical therapy graduates are high.  The California Employment Development Department estimated that between 2008 and 2018, there will be an increased need of 4400 (29% increase) physical therapists in the state.
